Dreamland scenic railway salvage wood

There are so many different things to see and do in the local area that you can keep coming back for more. Turner Contemporary sits on the site that JMW Turner stayed when visiting Margate, and links historical and contemporary art in the rolling schedule of exhibitions and events, and Dreamland is the old-fashioned but oh so fashionable theme park with rides from 1920s through to the present day. Shell Grotto offers a real puzzle - The Grotto's discovery in 1835 came as a complete surprise to the people of Margate and debate has raged about the Grotto's origins ever since.

Hornby Visitor Centre allows you to return to your childhood with model trains and scalextric, the Dickens House Museum in Broadstairs contains many items that belonged to Charles Dickens, and the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum contains parts of the bouncing bomb, as well as the planes themselves.

For more energetic guests, there are a number of tennis courts, bowls clubs and golf courses within easy reach, and the Viking Coastal Trail runs past the front of the hotel. Otherwise, Revolution Skate Park offers thrills. For shoppers, take a visit to Westwood Cross.

On the last Sunday of every month, the Cliftonville Farmers Market is housed opposite the hotel, and the Winter Gardens and Theatre Royal have a range of different shows and events throughout the year, while the Tom Thumb Theatre is located just across the road from us.

This is just a small selection of everything that Margate and beyond has to offer. Across the Isle of Thanet, there are Kent Greeters to answer any of your questions. For more information, have a look at the visitThanet website.

A Cliftonville beach

Thanet's 15 sandy beaches stretch from Pegwell Bay in Ramsgate to Minnis Bay in Birchington. This year they've notched up more Blue Flag awards than any other area in the country: seven Blue Flags plus three Seaside Awards. Experts across thanet will teach you to surf, jet-ski, and sail, or you can cycle or hike the 32-mile (51.4km) Viking Coastal Trail which passes outside the hotel.

Discover wheelchair-accessible bays via the Beach Within Reach scheme.

There are a number of activities on our beaches throughout the year, from Beach Cross Quad Bikes to Beach Volleyball, and the hotel reception have details of any events happening.
